 I did exactly that. Went from 486 to Pentium. You probably have an 
integrated mouse port (PS2) ? you will need to get a serial mouse as I 
know of no manufacturers that make a board for general sale with this 
mouse port built in. I changed my mouse, added a fan, switched video
cards (Vesa to PCI), and alls well. Good luck.
