First of all, your in the wrong group.

There are lots of factors involved.  
   - First, is the motherboard a standard MB?
   - Does your PC support a standard MB (ie: if its a Packard Bell or something you
     get from a catalog, then it probably is not)
   - If you don't know, your best bet is to take it to a local PC store (NOT CompUSA, etc)
   - Your RAM - what kind of RAM do you have and will need (30pin or 72pin)
   - Ask about a real MB - you can get a 486DX2/66 for about $125-150
