Problem Using Visual C++ to build .DLL

I've got Visual C++ going, and when I try to build a .DLL file with the
Medium memory model, it fails during the link because it cannot find a
file called mafxdwd.lib. This file is *NOWHERE* to be found on the
CD-Rom.

If I compile and link from the command line, using a different make
file, but the medium memory model, it works fine (I don't link in this
mafxdwd.lib file).

The problem is Visual C++ automatically adds this file and oldnames.lib
to our project. We really don't need either, but oldnames doesn't blow
us up.

Thanks. Post response here and/or (preferrably, to ensure I get the
response) to howieu@ix.netcom.com.

     Thanks, Howie

Problem solved, there is no such thing as a medium memory model DLL,
at least not under MFC. The reason it is trying to link mafxdwd.lib
is that the names of the libraries are put together according to
a convention:

mAFXcwd.LIB

m=Memory model (Small, Medium, Compact, Large)
c=Create (C=Exe, D=Dll)
w=Target (Windows, R=Realmode Dos)
d=Debug (if present)

So VC++ is trying to look for the library to build a medium memory model
windows dll with debugging information. No such thing as a medium model
DLL, so there is no library file.

RTFM: Appendix B of Class Library Users' Guide

Build in large model and all will be well.
