The Center for the New OED, or is it Open Text Systems, markets a
patricia tree search engine called "Pat". We use it locally to access
an on-line OED2 dictionary. Pat works best with structured text, SGML
in the case of the OED2, but can also handle other kinds. Try the
address "newoed@watsol.waterloo.edu".

N.B., I tried to confirm the above address and found that watsol is no
longer Internet reachable and is MX'ed to watserv2.uwaterloo.ca.
