In another life I am working on a program that will have to deal with a
large number of files on an MS-DOS system. By large I mean 1000-10000.
My program will be creating them as well as accessing them so I am free to
put them where I want.
My question is what is a reasonable number of files to put in a directory?
Further, is file access time a function of the size of directory or of the
number of files on a partition?
E-mail would be best for me. If anyone cares I am willing to sumarize.
