I have a similar problem. I'm using a scratch server not connected to the production LAN. Just trying to get the CD-ROM to even *work* under 3.12. Tried typing in command *EXACTLY* as they appeared in CDUP4.TXT. Wrong Answer. El Lockup Sytemmo. There is no other CD-ROM drive in my shop for me to try. Delve further into things, try different options, etc. Load modules one-by-one. IDECD.CDM locks up system. This drive is known ATAPI-compliant, is known to work fine under DOS, 95, NT, OS/2, SCO, Linux etc. Incredibly frustrating... Has anybody *in the world* gotten this to actually work, or are IDE CD-ROMS with IDE HDDs under 3.12 just an urban legend? Thanx, Kerry Thomas kdthomas@cyberramp.net -------- Details --------------- Dell NetPlex 486sx/33. 16MB Ram. 110MB HDD(IDE master). NEC Multispin 6V CD-ROM. Here's what I do: server -ns -na file server name bb IPX internal: aa load c:\server.312\patches\npapatch load nwpa /naload load after311 (auto-loads CLIB 3.12j,STREAMS 3.12b) load ideata port=1f0 int=E load idehd mount sys OK, now SYS is FINALLY mounted. Fine. Let's go on: load CDROM At this point, I get a stream of garbage, a beep, and a FS prompt. -- Any CD commands return an obligatory string of garbage, and a beep. -- LIST DEVICES returns the first device as being an "Unbound Device Object". A search for this cryptic little gem in the Novell KnowlegeBase reveals nothing. -- Kerry D. Is this CD-ROM on the same channel as the hard drive (I/O address 1F0, IRQ 14)? If so, try running the CD-ROM from IDE channel two (I/O address 170, IRQ 15). If you don't have a secondary channel in your system, DTC makes a very simple IDE controller that is addressable for either channel. It costs about $15. FWIW, I used to have a Creative Labs 6x IDE drive
working under my 3.12 server. I have since torn it
down and installed NT. Just letting you know that
someone did get it to work....and the CL 6X drive
was not even on the ol' compatbility list.
What I do remember is that I had the drive set up
as master on the secondary IDE channel. I looked at
your load lines....have you tried loading the cdrom
*.CDM **before** loading the CDROM.NLM.
Should be similar to:
load c:\nw312\npapatch
load nwpa /naload (don't remember what this
parameter is for)
load after311
load ideata.ham
load idehd.cdm
**************
load idecd.cdm
**************
mount sys
load cdrom
