ARRGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!
As with many other of you I thought it would be a good idea to add
OS/2 namespace to my NW 3.11 server in order to serve people with
WIN95. So I did. Problem is that in the two weeks since I added OS/2
namespace support to my volumes I've crashed the departmental server
at least four times, and mirroring has stopped working entirely (!!!).
It had been a stable server, with no crashes in the previous six
months of heavy use, so I believe I'm justified in pointing to OS/2
namespace as the culprit. I have a few questions first, and then
after the questions I'll put a complete description of all the abend
messages I got and so on in case anyone out there wants to be the good
samaritan and help me out.
Q1: Anybody else had a problem adding OS/2 namespace to mirrored
drives? I'm using Seagate ST43400N drives (3GB each) for two volumes
(dharma and karma), each of which has its own mirror, so it might have
something to do with the size of the drives too.
Q2: The drives had previously had Mac, DOS, FTAM (?), and NFS
namespaces. Has anybody had problems adding OS/2 namespace to such a
mix?
Q3: Are there any important patches for the OS/2 namespace or for
WIN95 clients?
Q4: Are there any important patches to install to make mirroring work?
Q5: Bonus question. Any way of finding out which processes are
hogging the utilization figures on a novell server? My server has
been at 100% utilization all day, and the VREPAIR process I'm
currently running to remove OS2 namespace from a 3GB drive will
probably take a week at the current rate. Any way of killing those
processes once you find them out? Or am I getting too used to UNIX?
Here's the server-specific stuff, for those who are still with me.
HP NetServer 5-60/LM, 64MB RAM, 2GB SCSI System Disk, two 3GB ST43400N
user volumes mirrored to another two ST43400N mirror volumes. Eagle
NE32000 NIC, 10base2 wiring, in a room with cooling problems,
connected to a BEST UPS. Running NW 3.11 with quite a few patches
installed (I can't get the list right now, unfortunately). Latest
version of VREPAIR.NLM.
Any hints on programs to get updated versions of?
MIRRORING
Mirroring has stopped working for the last two weeks. Here's the error
message when we boot the server and try to get mirroring working for
device DHARMA.
