$I have worked a bit with Mas90 system. Different modules have different
$memory requirements.

It's not MAS90 that's doing it, as the problem also shows up with
the DOS XCOPY command and during backups in the middle of the night.
All machines have plenty of conventional memory left; apart from one
which has CD-ROM drivers, all machines have plenty of UMB and most if
not all of the ODI and VLM components load high.

$ As far as the backup goes, does it ever lock
$up during it? What about your memory during a backup? Do your file cache
$buffers drop low? How about diskspace?

It never locks up. There are plenty of cache buffers and disk space.

$The verify option hmmm. This is interesting. I would try out a few tests
$and see if this is how it works. Is TTS on?

TTS is on, not that MAS90 uses it.

The latest things we've tried are setting the maximum transfer rate
on the AHA2940 to 8 MB/s (it was at 10), setting the Pentium's L1
cache to write-through instead of write-back, and swapping the Intel
NIC (16-bit ISA) for an NE2000Plus.  That was done about a week ago;
no idea if it's fixed it or not. They haven't called since then, but
the problem is intermittent and several days usually pass between
problems.
