$One of its foibles is its memory requirement. Using pick lists
$in deeply embedded menus an modules consumes memory voraciously.

You can say that again! An accounting consultant I know has a
client who stopped using some menu software because it ate so much
memory that they couldn't use pick lists in many modules.

$Another potential problem is that it needs the best, most stable
$Novell drivers. IPX.COM is right out, and ODI drivers should be
$the latest and greatest. (Haven't had the courage to try messing
$with VLM's on the company accounting system). I've seen old
$IPX.COM workstations corrupt data with nary a word from MAS90.

Our client runs all current drivers (now ... they were on VLM 1.10
before I started working on them), and State of the Art confirms that
MAS90 is compatible with VLM 1.20 and the various other ODI components
that come along with it. The NSE also confirms that ODI drivers, in
general, are reported to work with MAS90 and dinosaur IPX and old
NETX versions cause problems.

$All in all, it's so frail that I wouldn't understand why it's such
$a popular accounting package except for taking into account that IS
$staff never choose the company accounting package.

I'm not an accountant, but AFAIK it is a very full-featured package.
State of the Art also has a reasonable network of developer who can
customize the package to meet individual clients' needs. I'm not saying
that other accounting packages lack either of these features, just
that MAS90 seems to be strong in these areas.
