DOS, greatly underrated, has a simple utility pair called Interlnk and
Intersvr. Once you have a null modem cable between the two computers,
one computer can access the other's drives and printer as if they were
its. I've done this with a Pentium and an 8086 (PS/2 Model 30): the
great trick with that was that the PS/2 Model 30 could only handle DSDD
diskettes and only had 20 Megabytes hard drive. With this simple DOS
routine it could handle HD diskettes (and I suppose 2.88 Megabyte
diskettes) and a 1.2Gbyte hard drive.
I'm not sure about OS/2, but I am planning to hook up my two computers
with Ethernet cards. TCP/IP? Hyperaccess Pro would do it, too. The
big problem is accessing the CD-ROM, which is not a physical drive - its
software defined..
