There is such a program but I forget what it is called, LinkRight or

like that.  I don't use that method.

More likely a simple LAN setup with cheap Ethernet cards or a parallel
cable.

Similar concept but very different wiring.  For example, on the serial
cable
you have two data lines (one receive and one transmit) but on the 
parallel
cable you have eight bidirectional data lines.  I have the wiring 
diagram
at work.  You could find it easily enough via Infoseek.  Try parallel 
-> port
-> connect

OS/2 will let you use a parallel cable to make a mini-network and you 
can
share drives between two computers and copy files from one to the 
other
using techniques like "copy" or dragging and dropping.  As far as I 
know
you can't do that with DOS or WinXX; for those you need a file 
transfer
program.
