My concern is not about the OpenDoc codebase but the interoperability OpenDoc provides me as a potential user of the technology. will I be able to do what I wanted with OpenDoc in JavaBeans? I've decided to evaluate the VisualAge for Java tool IBM promises for late 1Q 1997. It will support JavaBeans. To me the point is that I can begin to make Objects of different processes and then have the communicate with an Object Request Broker that can glue them together. I want to use tools to create my objects and have my objects interoperate with other parts via a standard interface. If that's via JavBenas then so be it. I couldn't care if I eventually use a 3rd party ActiveX "object" in the system although I doubt it will exist on the platforms I use. In theory the ActiveX parts can be wrapped in Javabeans. > Does anyone have any information on IBM's Arabica project? I don't know the difference between merging and removing OpenDoc parts to add to JavaBeans. Really they do complement each other with OpenDoc being a system centric technology and JavaBeans being a network enabled technology weaker in places OpenDoc is strong. I think that's a relative term to say "merged". IMHO the momentum is with the JavaBeans Brandanme so I suspect all code will be branded as JavaBeans. > I just found a wab page last night that discussed CI Labs efforts to do a > compleate intigration, but I did not find anything indicating if IBM was > involved. CI Labs needs IBM's support. I read a comment from CIL that essentially said they were flexiable about JavBeans or OpenDoc.
