Multiport device names

I'm writing an application that uses serial ports and I want to be
compliant with multi-port cards (ie. those with more than 2 ports, or
intelligent cards with lots of ports not directly connected to the
bus).

For those of you who use multi-port cards, what device names are used
to reference the ports? Are they all COMnn format? (Ie. what should I
look for in the device list to load a combo box with?) Are the
IOCtl's the same as those in the IBM-supplied COM port driver?
