In article <4lermq$d7k@viper.shadow.net>, shawn@shadow.net says: >Well, most mother boards (e.g. all after 486DX) force the ram to operate at >the slowest speed. If you have 2 70ns and 2 80ns they all operate at 80ns. Well, more exactly, it's not the *motherboard*, it's physics. You can't run a memory chip at a speed faster than it takes for a data bit to be valid. Don't forget- the MB doesn't know the speed of a memory chip- *you* have to tell it, and as most MBs can't control the speed individually between banks (and *none* within a bank), it *has* to be set at the speed of the slowest chip in the system, to ensure that it's not polled for it's data before it's ready to give it (or get it). -Kenny -- Kenneth R.
