Adaptec 2940 with /ET hangs on bootup with HP IIc scanner. Help!

Problem: Pentium + Adaptec 2940 card with Pioneer 604X CD-changer and HP
IIc scanner on the SCSI chain (together with a Panasonic optical drive). If
the /ET parameter is set on the driver all 6 CDs are seen, but the system
hangs on bootup if the scanner is powered on. If the /ET parameter is
omitted the scanner can be used, but only one CD is available. Any ideas
folks?

Background: I used to have a 486 + 1542B driving the SCSI chain and this
was able to support all 6 CDs in the Pioneer and the scanner at the same
time. I have tried looking at the SCSI cables with some diagnostic
connectors and there appears to be a request outstanding. My guess is that
the driver is interrogating the scanner concerning all its internal LUNs
and is not getting a suitable answer.
TIA

A couple of things you can try to setup on the 2940 BIOS:

1. Disable SYNC Negotiation. Try it on your CD changer first, then the scanner.

2. Slow down the transfer rate to the scanner. You can slow down the CD too without any real loss
in performance.

Both of these things are SOP for SCSI DAT tape drives.

I had a similar problem. I found that I had it only if I had a device
that used SCSI ID#6. Might check to see if any of your devices use
that address?
