The local agents only answer >is to buy their new 120MB unit - but it can't read my old tapes, >and I don't want an old PC hanging about just to read them now >and again. Back in the days when a PC was a 8088, and a 5Mhz one at that, games were written without regard for realtime. When the AT's came out, all of a sudden these games were moving 6 times faster than they were designed. The solution: A program run to modify the DMA channel that controls memory refresh. This program set the refresh rate so high, that it threw away 80% of CPU power on 'wasted' memory refresh cycles. I have no idea if these programs work on 386's, but it'd be worth a try. You might look to see if your board supports a 'turbo switch' and if it does, try slowing yur machine down by turning off turbo when you want to run a backup.
