I have the oppurtunity to buy an Umac UC630 color scanner. Unfortunatly there is no Twain drivers and interface card included, but the interface is SCSI, so i suppose it would be possible to connect it to my Adaptec 2940, with sutible drivers. Someone who knows if there is such drivers and where to find them, or how to get in touch with Umax? /Christer

The BBS number in the US is (510) 651 2550. The Windows 3.1 driver files are called SU120_1.EXE and SU120_2.EXE. The Windows 95 drivers are in the files VS211_1.ZIP and VS211_2.ZIP. I've uploaded the files to ftp://wuarchive.wustl.edu/pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS/umax. --- Stephen Su ssu@garnet.berkeley.edu

If the scanners firmware revision is 2.6 (or less) the VS211_1.ZIP (Vista Scan) drivers do not seem to support the UC630. The VistaScan "Scanner Test" doesl work, but other programs report that "The current driver does not support the scanner attached to the computer" or some such . I have spoken with UMax support and they thought my 2.6 firmware was the problem (but they weren't ABSOLUTLE sure). I'm getting an updated chip (2.8 I think they said) and then we'll see. Under 3.1+ the drivers on their bbs did support my revisions 2.6 and I was using files 118_1.zip and 118_2.zip. Another post here suggests even later (SU120_1.EXE v1.20??) drivers are available. Good luck and let me know how you fare. HTH Lou lbusch@sojourn.com

Follow up, The 2.8 bios arrived yesterday, installed it and the scaner is recognized and works with the vistascan drivers. HiJak Pro (not '95) GPF's after one scan though. The adaptec scsi utility works as does PSP. Good luck, > >HTH > >Lou >lbusch@sojourn.com > Lou lbusch@sojourn.com
