AppleTalk multicast storms and Novell

We run several Novell servers as ATP servers also.

For AppleTalk we are mainly on an extended Phase 2 network, range 10-29,
but still have some Phase 1 systems seen via an Apple router.

For checking purposes I have a copy of the RouterCheck program of
Neon Software Inc.

When I run this RouterCheck on my Mac II (directly on Ethernet) it
triggers AppleTalk multicast (090007ffffff) storms which make networking
impossible. It does this by sending out what seems an innocuous packet
which is a ZIP command 7 (GetMyZone) : one typical such packet is
addressed to network 17 Node 255 Socket 6 (Zone).
Immediately, various Novell systems start sending out the same Multicast
(including MY Mac's source network, node and socket numbers) as fast
as they possibly can, i.e. every few hundred microseconds.

This, of course, means thousands of AppleTalk multicasts per second: I
leave it to your imagination to guess the consequences.

Any assistance in figuring out how to stop this would be welcome (unless
they are simply to avoid running RouterCheck).
