I think you'll find that the ping times with USRDS's will beat nearly any
other v.32bis v.42bis modems as well ("unfortunately" I have a pair
of T3000's). I've used a pair of USRDS and T3000's under identical
conditions (hw flow control, bsd4.3, IBM RT, SLIP, v.32bis, v.42bis)
and the USR ping 'latency' (64 bytes ; 56 data bytes) bottoms out
at around 140ms while the T3000's bottom out at about 200ms.
With a very compressible file the USR's yeild 3800cps via ftp where the
T3000's yeild 3590cps. Hopefully the PEP upgrade ROM will include some
performance enhancements in the v.32(bis)/v.42(bis) code...
