SMB and Win9$

1. I am currently attempting to get my Win9$ notebook to see the file
shares on my Linux box. I have not had any success at all. I know I am
close because:

  - I can access Win9$ using smbclient
  - I can access SMB itself using smbclient
  - I can have each of the machines ping each other and ifconfig does
show eth0
  - I can attach an SMB file share from home to my NTW4 at work
  - I can telnet to Linux and carry out HTTP operations
  - I can map a drive in Win9$ when the other computer is running NTS4

Yet when I try to map a drive in Win9$ using both machine name and IP
address it gives me:

Error 53: the computer name specified in the network path cannot be
located.
Make sure you are specifying the computer name correctly, or try again
later
when the remote computer is available.

So what is the deal???

2. Does anyone here have a home network? If so, did you set up Linux as
a router? I want to use network address translation to allow for the
notebook to use my phone line when Linux is available. If anyone has
successfully carried this out, how did you do it?

did you look in smb.conf and make sure that the share name and server
(i.e., domain) name are what you're entering when trying to access the
share?

Yes they are the same. My goal is to make my computer act the same under
WinNT and Linux/Samba as far as file/print/NAT goes. I did get file/print
working under NT. I was in Linux and used smbclient to access the same
NT server/share name.

When my regular computer is running NT, the share is visible to 9$. When
that same computer runs Linux/Samba, it is not visible. Yet I can access
that share from my NT box at work.
