Steve, >My question is, what is a Cisco router doing with an HP >proprietary MIB object? The answer is "the cisco router only neglected the illegal requests from HP's OV(OpenView).". One of our NOC guys told me that the problem occurred when he deleted a node object in OV. So, I guess OV tried to reset SMTP trap vector regardless of the object type when the delete operation was executed. Unfortunately, the trap reset operation has a bug which sends the SMTP request to the node every 0.005 second. To protect our network from the disaster, we assigned TTL value 999...999 to each object so that any object would not be deleted automatically. Of course, any object should not be deleted manually. FYI, our OV version is 2.0. >This is NOT an official response of Hewlett-Packard. Yes. But, I'd like to express my thanks to you. -Ken
