When someone gets seriously injured because Firestone tires > separated, you blame Firestone, not the hapless driver that was > unfortunate enough to buy and use them. The problem here is that Awww come-on. I'm so tired of hearing this stupid excuse as well. Those tires didn't just explode on the road. Tires take hundreds if not thousands of miles to separate that badly. All that time, they are making noises, getting louder and louder. Most were so ignorant of the the vehicle they operate that they drove the tires to destruction when there was plenty of warning. Sure, Firestone made tires that were defective, and drivers drove them to pieces, blithely ignoring all signs of impending doom. Why should computers be any different? > computers being sold to average people are inherently and inexcusably > insecure. Average people shouldn't have to be security experts to use > computers on the Internet any more than they should have to be > automotive experts to drive a car on the road. There is a difference between being an expert and obtaining the basic knowledge required to safely operate a vehicle - ON WHICH YOUR LIFE DEPENDS! Of course, you can depend on others for that knowledge - you can have your car DRIVEN and examined by a competent mechanic and you can contract security on your computer to an expert or purchase software to do same for you. But you are responsible for the security of your computer. Of course when you buy the computer or operating system, you are also responsible for knowing what its security is or isn't. If your operating system doesn't live up to its manufacturers claims, then that is an issue to take up with them. mgg
