Is it possible to keep up? I can't, can you? You do seem to be fairing a little better at it than me. :) Yes I knew that the 32 bit address space was considered inadequate. Private IP space doesn't do you much good when you're trying to reach other machines on the Internet. That's just for inhouse. Your own LAN. I dunno. I think 32 bits is inadequate because that's only 4.2 billion addresses. Minus what's private or reserved. That's less than the human population. But I did think that 64 bits would have been plenty adequate. I was dumbfounded when I read that IPv6 was 128 bits. With 128 bits...most of the Earth's rocks could have an IP addresses. Worms could have IP addresses. Fields of wheat. Cobs of corn. Cows. Cartons of milk, on the shelf, in the store. The future: you can email a carton of milk in the store and find out its expiry date if you want. It will auto-respond. Carton of milk replies: "Sorry; I've turned." (Etc.) Email your toaster, find out if your toast is done. Thanks for the answer. Rod
