Not having IslandDraw, I just use the unlabeled (more likely partially
labeled) matlab file in TeX with psfig, then add labels directly using
TeX motion commands (\hskip, \vskip), moving things around till they
look ok in ghostview (xtex isn't always reliable where figures are
concerned).
