WG14 is considering adding some class-like feature to C9X. Before
everyone starts shouting, you should read the proposals in:

        ftp://ftp.dmk.com/DMK/sc22wg14/c9x/classes/classes[1-4].txt.gz

The following is the slide that was the overview to the classes
presentation by Bob Jervis from Sun:

        Classes in C

        Part 1: Basic Classes in C (WG14/N424)
        - Class types.
        - Public and private members.
        - Member functions.

        Part 2: Inheritance (N445)
        - Single inheritance.
        - Members can be redefined.
        - Member functions can be redefined.
        - Pointer to class object of derived type is also a valid
pointer to any of the base class objects.

Part 3: Virtual functions, operation new and delete (N446)
        - Virtual functions are introduced.
        - Operator new is introduced so to be able to malloc
classes while setting the vtbl pointer.

Part 4: Constructors and destructors (N447)
        - To be used with operator new nad delete only not allowed
        for static or automatic objects.

Here's some of the straw votes we had on this (yes/no/abstain). Note
that straw votes are an opinion poll rather than official changes to
the language.

        - In favor of class-like feature? 10-0-7
        - In favor of Jervis classes part 1 for incorporation into
        C9X? 12-0-5
        - In favor of part 2? 13-0-5
        - In favor of adding protected? 6-0-10
        - In favor of adding part 3? 8-1-9
        - In favor of part 4? 5-4-8

We spent a good portion of Wednesday, 1995-10-18, discussing this.
I've skipped almost all of the details of the presentation and
the discussion because the minutes (when reviewed and published)
should have enough detail.
