I find mine and excellent little machine (though a little over priced when I bought it 3 years ago). I got it primarily to take to work to avoid having to use the departmental Macs/PCs but in fact my wife had now largely taken over it! My fault really. I suggested that she write here college essays on it... just shows you how easy Acorns are to use... one instruction session and she took to like a duck to.. etc. Now I can't prise it away from her. >Battery packs are no longer available (even though Acorn advertise them!). Bad news about the batteries though.. now where's my screw driver :-) In fact they have lasted very well with a bit of care. I tend not to leave them in when it on mains but do give them a full charge and discharge (leave the computer on overnight) every so often. They still give c. 2.5 hrs with judicious use. I have not (X'ed fingers mode) had any problem with the screen but a friend who bought on last year did have the screen go. It was repaired under warrently no problems. Interestingly, I thought that my older model was slightly better put together (the newer one had a couple of obviously hacked screws in the top/back). You might be better though waiting till later on in the year for the new portable (that's what I was told at the Acorn show). There should be a few more 2nd hand A4s on the market then.
