The 19 inch monitors on the market at the moment are very poor performers
I'm afraid. They don't have good tubes so the extra size doesn't even
bring them up to the level of a good 17 inch like Sony, CTX or ADI which
represent the best models available (all implementing Trinitron Tubes I
might add).
The DiamondTron tube based monitors like Iiyama and Taxan do not perform
to the same level as those mentioned above, and they are notoriously
unreliable in terms of performance upon delivery, anyhow they are out of
date now anyway.
The 19 inch monitors available implement [very] old style shadow mask, or
basic aperture grill technology which is miles away from the refinements
offered by Trinitron tubes.
By far the best monitors are sold by Sony but they are very, very expensive.
For 1200x1024 you can get very good performance from a top of the range
17inch, they will boast 1600x1200 but take this with a large pinch of
salt, what they can display and what you would want to look at are two
totally different things.
If you need higher resolution than this then you need to be thinking about
a 20/21 inch monitor, again Trinitron Tubes will give by far the best
performance.
