I beg to differ on this point!
(from PC Magazine)
"The Trinitron tube was developed by Sony for televisions and offers a
brighter image with more saturated colours. It features phosphor coatings
which run from top to bottom of the tube face, in vertical stripes and an
aperture tension mask with corresponding vertical slits. This method of
construction offers a greater area of phosphor and less area of mask to get
in the way of the beams, so more of the beam energy gets converted into
visible light. The original patent has expired, but Trinitron tubes were a
patented Sony design and for a long time Sony was the only supplier of this
type of tube."
This next bit is the important bit....
"Diamondtron tubes are a similar design developed more recently by
Mitsubishi" ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
In addition, looking at monitor adverts in PC magazines, (looking
specifically at the Mag Innovision), 2 monitors, overall they're much the
same. The Trinitron is the "standard" one, and the Diamondtron is the
"Professional" model.

Definitely!

My 17" VM Pro will run quite happily at 1600*1200. On my RPC it's a bit
flickery because of the lack of bandwidth, but on my PC the picture's crystal
clear & rock steady (shame about it only being 8bpp :-( )
