A5000, CC Colour Card and available modes

I have an 8mb A5000 and am currently using a RiscPC monitor (AKF60), which I
believe is a hi-resolution monitor, rather than the original multi-sync
monitor that came with it.

I contacted a local dealer who has a CC Colour card for sale and he was very
helpful but wasn't sure if the card would work in all modes on the hi -res
monitor.

I know that it's quite unlikely that anyone else is using the above setup,
but does anyone have enough technical knowledge about the CC Colour card to
tell me what modes I might get and whether it would be worth getting the
said card.

Thanking you all in advance,

Mike

Why is it when you sit around the house you don't actually sit around the house?

I had a similar problem some years ago when I bought a 2nd hand Colour
Card and also invested in a reconditioned Eizo F550-I monitor to go
with it. I bought the latter on the understanding that if it didn't
work I would return it.

I quickly found that the Eizo woulkd not lock to 15625kHz line scan
rate but was fine on the 31kHz hi-res flicker-free modes. As a result
I'm perfectly happy as it forces me to use a good quality display
mode. I still have my old AKF18 for compatibility with older
applications and the Eizo is superb.

I think the problem is the monitor vs. the screen modes rather than
the card. I had to experiment with the various options for monitor
types that came with the card software but it didn't take long to work
out a suitable set-up. I also found Wild Vision very helpful with
advice. Why not give them a call?

On the contrary mike I think you'll find quite a few people with a similar
setup.... yep the colour card (standard, not gold) is able to support a much
greater no. of colours and screen resolutions for the A5000, the best from a
standard colour card would probably be 800 x 600 (8bit) ie. 256 colours. IIRC
this is mode 103 for this card !!! hope this helps !!!

Believe me, it's worth getting the card! I have an SVGA monitor that handles
the same modes as an AKF60 and is of slightly higher resolution. The speedup
is nothing short of incredible, in fact the overall performance is slightly
better than a RPC600 with no VRAM.

I can't recommend the ColourCard Gold highly enough. Get it now! :-)

Thanks for the help, Anthony. The main mode I need is a 256 colour 800*600
so I think it might be a good buy.

Thanks again, everyone
