Your starting to get into methodology here. SPEED is not everything.
Most 3d software people are starting to wake up. If you want more
rendering speed all you get is CHEAP 486DX66, network them and run
a network renderer. This is how its going to go in the future.
Buying 486, is the cheapest MIPperDOLLAR that is not vaporware.
AND IT WORKS well NOW.

I am a SGI Advocate but BEEEEEP, Wrong, well not completely right.
The Cosmo card was announced a LONG time back. It was suppose to release
over 6month ago. It has not and the reason why is because the jpeg/mpeg chip
they chose to make the card around is junk. They blow up after a period
of use... No sign of this chip getting any legs so.. as a SGI consumer
the Cosmo board is a dead product and may as well not exist.

Its sh*t hot hardware. However, SGI have a pricing problem which
I am told even David Olsen has agreed with.

SGI have it good now but not for long. Ie when it comes to paint programs.
Sorry, SGI's have some really nice programs but, the PC stuff is
better in some ways. Once we get PowerPC and new bus technology, SGI
will not have as much going for it and will probably lose out to better
software made for these new systems. It is a trend that the best software
seems to evolve on the mass market boxes as SO MANY PEOPLE develop on them.
SGI are still playing games are are hesitating to partake in mass market
as they do not want to support the machines on such a large scale.
Its a nightmare and hard to control.

Sgi like the graphics nech(spell) market they are in. Fine but if they
do not do more mass market, all these companies developing for them will
turn to the new hardware with is mass market.
