Ok, if you compare that 66Mhz PC's to the 7Mhz AMIGA.... : > : >Regardless of of what the processor is, the PC is better equipped because : >of the way it stores graphics. : BullShit. Chunky and Planar both have good and bad points. Chunky is : only "superior" because the CPU which has memblk copy instructions can This is very true and I agree with you here but The argument is about things ala wolf 3d which chunky mode is obvoiusly better for. And i don't think it's very realistic to talk about memblk instructions. Were talking about words here, the pc simply has to move one word to one place for one pixel. With the amiga we have to move/or a byte 8 times(256 cols) in order to get the pixel in memory. : move gfx, w/o the need for a custom gfx co-processor. Which (Oh My) : the Amiga line of computers have... Once again this is all very well but when it comes to rotated graphics, it is a LOT easier to move them in chunky mode. Sure you can use the blitter for some things but with pc graphics you don't need to. Once again I must stress that we ARE talking about wolf3d type graphics Had we been talking about an 8 way scrolling screen, then the amiga would utterly kick butt! : >:But even the 7Mhz version can do things your 66Mhz PC needs local bus etc. for. : > : >This is true, but you forget, I am an amiga user too. I'm just sick of people : >advocating a machine by spinning shit. : You have a funny way of showing it. Above you make a blanket statement about : one graphic storage method making a machine "better equiped" to deal with As I said above read the begginning of the thread before you say i'm making a 'blanket statement'. It was kind of just one patch on a big quilt 8-) : gfx than another. Below you make a PROCESSOR comparision (68020 -vs- 80386) : based on gfx. And again we ARE talking about wolf 3d stuff so while i'm sure there are a few blitter tricks(like resizing in the y dirrection with the modulos) you can use but the chunky to planar overhead is just too much for the blitter to compensate. :>:And if you make a comparison that makes sense, PC66 vs. A4000, the difference :>:is much smaller. An A4000 has the power to do a wolf3D =) :> :>Yes true. The A1200 even has the power to do wolf 3D, but a 16Mhz 386 (eqiv to :>the 16Mhz 020) would have to do less in order to do this that the 020. This :What do you mean by the above "do less" statement?(NOTE: I am being rhetorical) You are, but for those who haven't got it yet. The pc must rotate the graphics. The amiga must rotate the graphics and THEN convert them into planar mode. : >is why the CD32 has the Chunky to Planar chip. This way, the 020 writes : No, it makes porting Chunky graphics/algo. easier. It has been shown : historically that developers are in a PC mindset and don't want to : learn the inside of a machine that won't produce "big bucks" for : them. Ergo C= satifies both developers and users by allowing developers : to stay in their field of expertise while still producing kick-ass : game software for the Amiga. OOOOOOOOOO Big statement!!! 8-) Ok sure there may be somewhere out in cyberspace that mythical routine, that 2nd wonder of the computing world (the first being that Microsoft is still in business 8-) the ever powerfull resize and rescale with the blitter effect. If you can show me a routine with the blitter and cpu which works almost as fast or faster than a straight chunky mode manipulation, then I will bow down in my argument, praise my computer even more than I allready do and wonder why oh why don't I have a demo which does this. : >its data the same way the 386 would, and then the Chunky to planar chip : >converts it to the way the amiga wants the data. : You are a real sweetheart aren't you? Lighten up Ego Man... 8-) me ego naaahh. Ok I admit I was a bit harsh, but Isn't everyone sick of people crapping on about how good their respective machine is by spinning shit. -- Mark Brophy, The world is like an orange, Sort of!!!!!????? ******************************************************************************** ** *** Amiga 1200, ///** ** "News flash!, Vacuum cleaner sucks up budgie." *** "Machine /// ** ** -The Clash *** of the \\\/// ** ** *** Gods" \/// ** ******************************************************************************** ** Mail: ins557g@aurora.cc.monash.edu.au ** ********************************************************************************
