actually, I wrote the GNO assembly macros and the script.asm you were basing
your code from :)

oh yeah, setdebug is built in to the shell, just type 'setdebug' from
gsh to get a list of options to it. It should also be documented in the
shell manual...so, you don'e have to explicitly make setdebug() calls
in your program, you can let gsh fo the work for you.
