I'm sorry to lurch into this group as it were, but I have only just
discovered it, and I have a couple of really pressing questions to ask
of the gathered "net-wisdoms".
In particular, I'm after a screen editor, (other than sedt which I
have and dislike immensely), for my Rainbow 100 that I can use to
write code and the like. I'm running MS-DOS 2.11, and although I have
managed to get some IBM-PC things working, (Turbo Pascal v.2 was a
real triumph), screen editors seem to be in a class of their own.
I have tried both mg, (an emacs clone), and elvis but neither seems to
be able to handle the screen.
Secondly, I was wondering what technical documentation for the Rainbow
is available, and how easy it might be to get hold of. I have the
MS-DOS manuals, but given the fact that there are obvious
incompatibilities with 'standard' PCs, I would like to know what these
are, and how I might go about working around them.
Many thanks in advance,
Michael.

In ftp.solbourne.com:pub/rb/drycus/emacs39e.zip is an old version of micro emacs, ported to the rainbow. You might give it a spin. Also, the latest version of micro emacs works with code blue. I have a hacked version of micro emacs 3.10 that uses the Rainbow's fast video, but it has bunches of problems... >Secondly, I was wondering what technical documentation for the Rainbow >is available, and how easy it might be to get hold of. All DOS calls are the same on the Rainbow. All the IBM-PC BIOS calls are not. The MS-DOS manual is about as good as it gets. There is some good documentation on the hardware of the Rainbow in the CP/M version of the doc set. Try VDE, a fast, small, full-featured shareware editor available from most bulletin boards. There are CP/M and MS-DOS versions. John Burt
