I am using my DEC Professional 350 with a 10MB-HD. Now I want to install
a lager one. I heared about someone, who successfully installed a Seagate
ST 225 (20 MB). What do I have to do if I want to install a 40 MB harddrive?
Does the controller support this harddrives?
My operating system is Venix 2.0.

Before you install the drive, you need to make sure the ROMs on the hard disk controller card are up to the proper revision level. ROM#1: 073B2, ROM#2: 072B2, ROM#3: 071B2. If you don't have these ROMs, it probably won't work. I'm running P/OS 3.2 on my system; I don't know about Venix 2.0 support for the larger drives. One other anomaly I noticed during installation: when P/OS went to format the hard disk, it seemed to do an excessive amount of head seeks. It seemed as though it was resetting the head to track 0 between each write, which didn't seem proper. There may be a jumper option on the ST225 that I didn't have set the same way as on the DEC version (the RD31). In any event, it was slow, but it did format correctly and I was able to install the O/S just fine afterwards. I obtained my upgrade ROMs from a local shop, DEKTECH in here in Sunnyvale California. Good luck! Kurt

Say, speaking of disk controller ROMS, does anyone know of a way to "map" these roms from the PRO and read them? I want to dissasemble them and see what's going on in there... Lee K.
