Stephen,
Ummm, not exactly. The product you are referring to is not a TURBOchannel
Expander. But rather, a TURBOchannel Extender. The difference is that you can
still only put ONE logical TURBOchannel option in a TURBOchannel Extender. It
just gives you the additional real estate and power. This was particularly set
up for DECstation customers who wanted to use the PXG TURBO in conjunction with
an FDDI option.
Since we could not get OS support for a TURBOchannel Expander (which would
take the slaved address space for a system TURBOchannel slot and divide it up
into slaved addresses for additional logical TURBOchannel options in the
external box) the Extender was the next best thing.
The external box does allow you to add additional storage devices though. It
will support two half height hard disks and one half height removable media.
Not surprising since it is built off of the DS5000/1xx system box.
I hope that this clears up the confusion.
Related Question:
How many people would like to have a VAX (VAXstation or VAXsystem) with more
TURBOchannel slots (and how many slots make a "reasonable" configuration)?
Thanx,
AJ
