vt340 graphics programming help needed

I'm trying to display a 512x512 image on a vt340. Sending the image to the
graphics display one pixel at a time using ReGIS commands is way to slow for
it to work. Is there to send binary data to the terminal so that it will
display the image much faster? I've heard that it can be done on a vt240,
but I don't know how to do it. None of the manuals I have (Programming
Reference Manual Vols 1 & 2) say anything about doing this. I need to be
able to display the image in 16 colors. Any help is appreciated. Please
email responses as I don't normally read this group.
