        I posted this question for my friend and I am not sure if
        this is the right forum for this. If not, post ME and I will

   Hi!
   
   We are building a system here in Finland that is supposed to
   work on a VAX-PATHWORKS FOR DOS-PC network. We have written most
   of the software and are now up to our ears in debugging the
   package. The problem is that we have no experience about debuggin
   tools for "client-server" software. The program on VAX is started
   by the PCs as a DECNET netobject and we haven't yet figured out how
   to efficiently debug that netobject.
   
   The program consist of a "application-server" that runs half on PCs
   half on the VAX, each application (data entry screen etc) using
   the services the application-server offers. All screen handling and
   network trafic is (almost) totally hidden from the programmer building
   the application. 
   
   The problem is that we can't really use eg. CodeView on the PC's 
   because the application server is hiding so much of the actual 
   application. Debugging the Vax-part of the application is harder still,
   how do you run that netobject which expects that anyone who starts
   the object is a PC ?
   
   So we must rely on inserting debugging code into the applications
   and simply rebuiding the program whenever we need more debugging
   info. There must be a better solution.
   
   Any suggestions and ideas about tools are most welcome,
