I have been attempting to build an ansi c compiler on a new DECstation 5000 at work, and have had no luck at all. I downloaded gcc-2.2.2 from the net, and tried to build it according to directions in the INSTALL file, but received error messages from `ar` saying there was a badly formed archive (no 68). Any clues as to why this happened? (I know that this package compiles just fine on a DEC 5000, because we have one at UNL and the same package compiled with no problems there.) I am at a loss as to why I am unable to build this. Also, should the compiler on a new (brand new) machine running ULTRIX4.3 be ansi compliant? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
