Has some one out their a method of reading a tar tape from a dat (4mm) tape unit connected to a VAX/VMS system?? I have dat tapes written on a CONVEX and Silicon Graphics, but i can not read them. I have a program from the net called vms2tar, but it gives a read error when i define the input (the logical TAPE) as the dat tape unit MKA0:. Maybe there is a dd like possibility? The tape IS readable, i can dump the contents of the tape using dump i.e.: VMS> DUMP MKA0: I also have a DEC-station. Maybe i can connect the dat tape unit to the DEC-station using the SCSI bus. But how do i address the unit? Do i have do do a mkdev? Any help will be appreciated.
