Here's a suggestion for Digital, and all other computer companies: Fire (sack) all of the sales droids. Replace them with a smaller number of people who have the ability to answer technical questions. I, for one, have on many occasions declined to putrchase things soley because I got annoyed with sales droids who were pushy and, or, were lacking in technical knowlege. I don't like sales droids trying to sell me things; I prefer to just be able to find out what is available and make up my own mind based on prices and technical details. What computer companies need to do is just print out lots of catalogues and technically useful advertising literature, that includes prices, and make it available to customers and prospective customers. What I find most annoying are catalogues and sales brochures which lack adequate technical details and lack pricing information. By the way, another thing that should be done away with, and the sooner the better: the so-called "value added resellers". The only thing that these con-artists add to anything are increased prices. As far as I can tell, they're normally just a bunch of damed idiots with overly inflated egos. Any reasonably intelligent person, given decent documentation, can install their own OS on a computer and can choose and install the peripherals that they need. -- Robert D.
