Trouble locking repository w HP-UX C++ over NFS
#18

When I compile C++ programs on a NFS mounted disk on HP-UX 10.0 the compiler
hangs forever. The same compile telneted to the NFS server works fine. It
appears to be hanging trying to lock the repository.

Anyone seen this before? Fixed it?

TIA

If you are using SunOS 4.1.x on NFS file server, I think I have. BTW, Auspex
and some other file servers might be using SunOS kernels too. SunOS is fatally
broken in its handling of locks over NFS using rpc.lockd and/or rpc.statd.
Other OS like HP-UX and Solaris 2.x appear to work fine. Sun said they will
NEVER fix this in SunOS 4.1.x.

You can use the following options passed to CC:
-Wr,-ptl
-Wi,-ptl

These options turn off locking of the ptrepository so beware of simulataneous
updates causing corruption, etc. However, your hangs over NFS should go away.
