Who can tell me the audio cable pinouts (CDRom drive to soundcard)?

I have a cable to connect my Toshiba 5201 SCSI drive to
Soundblaster, but no sound comes out of my soundblaster "compatible"
when playing audio CD's. In fact connecting the cable kills the
headphone output (?shorting something).

Toshiba drive end looks OK, Black to Left, Red to Right, screen to
ground.


Soundcard end:

        a "block" socket marked Panasonic/Mitsumi

        my cable leaves the leftmost pin unused, and connects the
next three (in sequence L-R) black-screen-red.

        This is a multi CD interface card, and there is also a Sony
audio connector of a different style.

        The unused leftmost pin on Panasonic/Mitsumi is connected to
the rightmost pin on the Sony connector, which suggests to me that
this pin does have some function and should be connected. Is my
cable miswired?

        The 3rd pin (connecting to screen) connects to the leftmost
pin on the Sony connector.

        Other connections are untraceable (multilayer pcb).

 
Soundcard is a Quickshot SoundMachine Pro 16 Plus with OPTI
Mediachips and Soundport chips on the board.


Is this a cable problem (I think so) or a driver problem?

I can't see cable pinouts in the CDROM-FAQ - are they listed
anywhere.
