We've been using a Mitsumi FX400 for around 2 months now to run the
Borland C++ compiler from CDROM (saves on 80MB disk space :-) ) however
recently (last month) we have started to get Drive Not Ready errors
appearing after approx 4 hours of operation. We've returned it to the
supplier twice now (even with an CDROM that exhibits this fault) and
they have been unable to reproduce the fault. Therefore it must be
something we're doing wrong, but I must admit I'm stumped.
When drive starts misbehaving you can hear the CDROM drive speed
spinning up and down as though it were hunting for the correct speed or
finding it difficult to maintain speed.
Tried (works fine except above problem):-
FX400 as slave to Seagate on VLIDE primary channel
FX400 as slave to WD Caviar on VLIDE primary channel
FX400 as slave to WD Caviar on ISA IDE primary channel
FX400 as master on VLIDE secondary channel **** <- Thought this would
crack it :-(
Ver 1.21b & V1.30 of Mitsumi driver
In DOS 6.20 & Wfwg 3.11
486DX266 CPU
486DX33 CPU
AMI BIOS
Tried (wouldn't work):-
FX400 as master on Promise VL4030 secondary channel
(Suppliers setup - works perfectly)
FX400 as slave to Seagate on VLIDE primary channel
DOS 6.22
Ver 1.21b of Mitsumi driver
486SX25
AMI BIOS
Any suggestions?
