Hi all, I have an Adaptec 1502 ISA SCSI-2 card with a Panasonic 7502 burner. I am interested in buying a SCSI Panasonic 24x (model 508-B) to use with this burner. 1. What is the DAE like? How fast? 2. Any problems reading burnt audio CDs? 3. Noise levels and vibration? 4. Will my 1502 be able to handle both the burner and the 24x simultaneously without the 24x having to slow down? Thanks, please email

My Panasonic 24X SCSI CD-ROM (508) does DAE very well, better than I
actually expected. I've burned quite a few audio CD-Rs without a single
coaster, and I can not tell a difference between the originals and the
copies.
For audio I do normally burn at 2X, I just feel better that way,
though I have not had any problems at all when I do burn at 4X. All my data
CDs are burned at 4X unless the data is critical (in which case I want the
security of burning at 2X)
This isn't related but all of my copies have worked perfectly with 5
different CD-ROMs, 2 car stereos, and 5 CD players... so I have had no
compatibility problems at all.
My CD-R drive is an internal Yamaha 4260, my SCSI card is the Asus
SC-875, and I use Sony media for audio.

Weve supplied a lot of 508s and 586 587 etc and surprisingly the IDE drives are much faster for DAE, (6x on SCSI 13 * IDE!) Have never hooked up the 7502 with a scsi reader on anyhthing less than a PCI ultra scsi and Id be somewhat doubtful youll get reliable 4x burns with a 1502. My favorite for price performance is the Advansys 930 for around $150 PCI, busmastering ultra SCSI bootable bios, at least as good as an Aadpatec 2940 for less than half the price. It's only a basic, 16-bit, PIO-mode controller. Trying to run both a CD and CD-R simultaneously would generate a large number of drink coasters. Look for a busmastering controller, such as the Adaptec 2940 series (not the 2920) or similar other brands. -- If there is a no_junk in my address, please REMOVE it before replying! I have the panasonic 508-B 24x Cdrom drive. The only problem I have with it is it won't read gold CDR's with andio on it but gold data disks works fine. The green and blue it has no problems at all. I have come across alot of CD playes (audio) that wil not read the gold disks.
