I have been trying to sort out a friends PC after the autoexec.bat and
config.sys files were wiped. No backup files and no original disks. I
have everything sorted except the cd-rom drive. Can anybody let me have
the default settings for the following.
Aztech CDA268-03I EIDE cd-rom using the interface on a Multimedia Pro
16AB Version 2.01 soundcard (don't know the maker). The device driver is
sgide268.sys. The machine is a P66 supplied in the UK by Escom.
many thanks

I have an Aztech CDA268-03I IDE and if you mean what to put in the config.sys and autoexec.bat, this is what you need: in config.sys: device=c:\blah\blah\sgide268.sys /d:MSCD000 in autoexec.bat: c:\blah\blah\mscdex /d:MSCD000 Though my driver is sgidecd.sys not sgide268.sys... Hope that helps.

Yes that is what I meant. Those were the settings I tried but I got an
error message saying that it couldn't find the cd drive. I assume that
it requires other settings to be defined. I also tried the /L: switch to
tell it which drive letter to assign. Escom helpline isn't much help
either.

I think I've seen this on a friend's Escom - the configuration for the sound card (including the IDE settings for the CD) were supplied as a parameter to the sound card device driver loaded in config.sys IIRC - a switch followed by some hex chars, the format of which wasn't obvious - you need to (get hold of and) run the sound card setup disk. (That was the conclusion I came to after trying to check the IRQ settings on it - the setup s/w wouldn't display the current parameters - only allow you to assign new ones...)
