[clip] I've done this before: it's pretty trivial. There are numerous places in the C64's memory map where you can steal a few bytes for a real UART. (If you don't have a UART I'll give you 6850 basic motorola clone.) I've got rough skits somewhere if you need'em. The important thing is to make sure your decode 2 remembers to turn off the ram or you will have a output-only 232 port! : ( Hope this helps -- lemme know if you want that chip or a 'skit. Minor complaint to (ghost of) CBM Inc: I loved the commie dearly, but why in blazes were the two pins of the '138 -- marked "For future expansion" -- active? If these were for future expansion like they claimed, there 7 have been nothing using those memory areas, so those two lines should have never had a signal. PS. Somewhere in this thread I though I saw mention of a program for hooking the 1541 to a PC LPT port. I think it was called x1541? My archie can't find it -- any pointers ? Thx. -- `;^} D'Bird (dbird@eskimo.com) '
