I am reading the threads in the newsgroup and find out that choosing a modem
for my new pc is the most diffcult task.

So can someone just suggest a modem ( brand and specific model no) which will
do a decent job for my need. Most of the time I will use it for surfing or
sometimes PPP/SLIP. I rarely use it to connect BBS. I don't need any other
fancy features like fax/voice since primarily I use it to connect to internet.

I think I will only use it for a year maximum because every year there must be
some new standards come out which force you changing a new one.

The price is also a concern but I will weight it less than the quality of the
modem itself.

Thanks for any suggestion
