I've been through lots of catalogues since yesterday, and am most interested in the Envision scanner that retails for $699. I notice it's a West Coast company that doesn't deal with wholesalers, so I've never heard of them before. Next on the list is a Microtek that runs for about $750. While I'd feel a little "safer" with a "known quantity" like HP, their scanners were more expensive for the types of features I was looking for. What is the typical life of a one-pass color scanner? Roughly, how many scans can you expect to get out of it before it needs a major overhaul? (A poster enthusiastically mentioned Mustek, another company I hadn't heard of before yesterday.
