You didn't say what kind of disks you have !
If it's a SCSI, it should work with the classical DOS tools, FDISK,
FORMAT.

I guess it's an IDE, then it's a bit more difficult. Motherboards more
then a year old, usually don't have provision for disk > 512 MB.

According to my little experience (please correct me), there are several
alternatives:

1) you buy a new motherboard, with LBA (Large Block Addressing) support
in the BIOS.

2) you buy an EIDE disk controller, with on-board ROM, to support disks >
512 MB (which will do exactly the same as #1 but at the controller level)

3) you install Disk Manager, wich installs a device driver to bypass the
512 MB limitation (which will do exactly the same as #1 but at the
software level). I bought a Maxtor 850 MB, it came with Disk Manager, but
Disk Manager is a licensed product, ie: to be purchased separately.
I didn't like the device driver solution, because you have to rely on
the presence of that device driver. If you boot inadvertanly from a std
DOS floppy you don't see your disk. I bought an ASUS motherboard, has LBA
support.
