: Sort of noisy, like a HardCard spinning.

Yes, mine runs in my bedroom. It's external. I first thought it was
the cooling fan. Actually seems like a combination of both. It is
about as noisy as 4 other hard drives combined in my tower case. Of
course it is probably better insulated sounds-wise in the tower.

Things do get warm inside the tower, one of the reasons why I opted
	for the external.

: Fast.

Yes, that is true... very fast. My main drive is 14ms, I think this
one is 10ms. Same as my 2210 which is also 10ms.

: Hot! (As in thermally.) Do I need a good fan or should I move it
: to an external enclosure? It sort of bothers me. It is well
: ventilated, though.

Yes, they get warm, I have a 660, 1050 and now the 1750 meg models,
all feature the Micropolis trademark when it comes to heat.
I have replaced both the 660 and 1050 under warranty. If I have to
replace the 1050 again, I will put the replacement in an external
enclosure as I will suspect heat at that point. Average temperature
overall in the case is 93-95 degrees. Drives are quite warm. The
660 was replaced due to failure that was present from the start but
not realized until a year went by, different reason than the 2210
which died after 6 months. Their warranty option ($50 brings a
	replacement) is quite good.

: No problems yet, and this is after pounding the hell out of it
: for maybe a week and a half.

	Sounds about like mine.

: I think now that I like the quiet cool of a low profile drive more,
: but the ~15 times storage is probably worth it.

Since the 2217 is going for $999 price, not much can beat it for price
vs capacity. Noise can be reduced I suspect in an appropriate case.
I may change the fan on my external -- as I suspect its not top grade
in the quiet department. I changed the fan on the front of the tower,
and its much quieter, and cooler - I bought one from Digikey with
	around 30-35% more cooling.

: Still, I wouldn't mind trading for two low profile drives.

Is that an offer? Hmm interesting... Do you realize that you'd most
likely pay 40% more for same capacity that way?
